About Carrara Mechanical
Carrara Mechanical started in 2001 offering Computer Aided Design and Machine Design as well as Manufacturing Engineering Consultation to manufacturing facilities. Over time, our strengths in fabrication and computer aided design has grown into our current niches. Presently, Carrara Mechanical has branched out to offer two primary focuses of business 1.) Manufacturing a product line of Carrara Mechanical agricultural implements and 2.) Innovative Engineering Design and Patent Management Services.
I am a Mechanical Engineer with nine years of experience in the profession. In 1998 I graduated from Clarkson University obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a professional concentration in Machine Design and Manufacturing.
After completing college, my first professional experience was for Husky Injection Molding located in Milton, Vermont. As a Design Engineer for the Hot Runners Systems, I developed ideas that reduced manufacturing costs by $250,000 per year. These processes were implemented within my first month of employment.
I was then approached by Borg-Warner Automotive Morris TEC in Ithaca, New York. I was offered a Manufacturing Engineering position in their timing chain and powdered metal plant. Here I redesigned material handling equipment to reduce manufacturing bottlenecks. My "claim to fame" was revamping existing deburring equipment with PLC's and removing old problematic hydraulic systems and replacing them with solid, state of the art variable speed AC drive systems. As well, I designed a more efficient loading and unloading system and peripheral material handling equipment. Prior to these modifications, the deburring machines were the plants bottleneck. When I completed modifications to only two of the eight machines in the plant, it was possible to remove two other deburring stations and still have an abundance of production to cover the forecasted company growth for over 5 years. After this I was promoted and transferred to the Research and Development team to work on the development of CVT Transmissions.
Being a Vermont native, I decided to return to Vermont and took a Manufacturing Engineering position with General Electric Aircraft Engines in Rutland, Vermont. Here I found that my engineering skills and inventive ideas were not being utilized to their fullest potential. This is when Carrara Mechanical was started.
Developing Carrara Mechanical has allowed me to work with a wide variety of businesses in many different trades. My personal work ethic is to do every project timely, efficiently and most of all, correctly. Every new project is a new challenge which utilizes my creativity and broadens my engineering knowledge. I have utilized my fabrication and manufacturing experience to develop Carrara Mechanicals' own line of agricultural implements. These can be purchased through your local tractor dealer or directly from Carrara Mechanical. Our Engineering Design Services and Patent Management has evolved utilizing my engineering experience and inherent creative thinking. These projects have resulted in a superior design and more efficient product for each of my clients.
"I am passionate about the work I do, not only is it a career, but a source for my inventive nature to thrive." Dana Carrara
